Fixed or varifocal lens?

There are several options available when selecting cameras, so we consider your desired view/image and then determine the nearest suitable fixing point for the camera.

Fixed lens

The lowest cost solution utilises a fixed lens camera, with a static single view

Normally there are a couple of fixed lens options for a standard camera and the recommendation will be determined by the preferred angle of view.

Standard fixed focal lenses for Hikvision cameras are 2.8mm (best for wide views) and 4mm.

Zoom lens

To deliver a closer image, a camera with a varifocal (zoom) lens is used.

This has a motorised zoom, but only operates in a fixed direction, so is ideal for framing the desired image that is too far away for a standard fixed lens, but they cannot rotate (you need a PTZ for this functionality).
